Day 6

Everything is going smoothly, except for the more frequent cleanup of litter on the floor. The cats are using the litter pan about 4 inches from the ground, still way too low for them to need to jump.

I am thinking that in order to make sure they are entirely comfortable I will eventually buy or make for them a little step stool. That way they wont ever have to jump if they don't want to.

I also need to find a way to secure the litter pan to the ground or the papers while it is getting increasingly taller. Any suggestions on how to do this?

  1. It took me two months to kick litter. Maybe more. I wasn't counting but the big guy we live with was... sigh. He used cinder blocks to make the litter box grow, and thin, tasty rubber cabinet liner to keep it from slipping off.

  2. you might want to check out these commercial products: http://www.citikitty.com/
    and http://www.litterkwitter.com/en/index.php
what you're doing should work fine too but what i found was that the commercial products made things easier to transition from one stage to the next. also, the litter kwitter webpage has a forum you can join to talk to others who are going through the same thing and troubleshoot together. i choose citikitty for various reasons and was able to train my cat in 3 weeks. good luck!
